Glow Line for makeup artists
A makeup artist is usually somewhere else when the phone rings: on location at a wedding, three faces into a bridal party, or driving to the next venue. Next season's brides ring on exactly those Saturdays. Glow Line answers with your rates, your trial and deposit rules and your travel area, takes the date as a request and texts it to you.
Incoming call, Saturday 10:35 am
- Hi, I am getting married on a Saturday next autumn. Could you do me, three bridesmaids and my mum?
- Thanks for calling Lark and Linen Makeup. Bridal makeup is $280, and each bridesmaid or mother of the bride is $140. A trial is $150.
- Lovely. Can you hold my date?
- I cannot check or hold dates, but I will pass yours on with a party of five. Can I take your name and mobile? The artist will text you.

What gets in the way for makeup artists
Saturdays are spent on location
The busiest day for work is also the day brides and their mothers have time to ring. You are in a hotel room with a brush in each hand, and the caller planning a wedding next year hears voicemail.
The first question is the date
A bride wants to know whether you are free on her day before anything else. The assistant cannot see your calendar, so it takes the date and the size of the party as a request, and you reply once you have checked.
A quote with moving parts
Bride, bridesmaids, mothers, a flower girl, a trial, an early start, travel. If each is a service with a price, the assistant gives each figure, and your notes explain the travel area and the early start rule.
Trials and holding a date
Callers ask whether a trial is needed and how to secure the day. Put the rule in notes, such as a deposit that holds the date and comes off the final bill. The assistant states it and never takes the money.
A worked example
Makeup artist work, with Glow Line
Lark and Linen Makeup is one artist working from a small home studio and travelling to venues for weddings. The list on Glow Line has seven services: bridal makeup on the day at $280 for 90 minutes, a bridal trial at $150 for 90 minutes, bridesmaid or mother of the bride at $140 for 45 minutes, flower girl at $60 for 20 minutes, event makeup in the studio at $120 for 60 minutes, lash application at $25 for 15 minutes, and a lesson at $180 for 90 minutes. Notes say travel within 30 km of the studio is included and $60 beyond it, starts before 6 am add $80, a $200 deposit holds a wedding date and comes off the final bill, and a trial works best two to three months before the day.
On a Saturday at 10:35 am, with the artist doing the third bridesmaid in a hotel room, a bride rings about a wedding on a Saturday next autumn: herself, three bridesmaids and her mother. The assistant gives the bridal price, the bridesmaid and mother price and the trial price, reads the deposit rule, and says it cannot check or hold dates. It takes her name, mobile, the date and the party of five. The artist reads the text in the car at 1 pm, checks her calendar, and finds the date free. She texts the bride the total: $280 for the bride and four at $140, $840 on the day, plus $150 for the trial, with the deposit rule and a payment link.
The bride replies that evening to book the trial. A wedding party of this size is $990 of work, and it started as a call the artist could not have taken with a brush in each hand.
Questions from makeup artists
Can it check whether I am free on a wedding date?
No. It cannot see your calendar. It takes the date, the number of people and any detail the caller gives, such as the venue, as a request, and you reply once you have checked.
Can it give a bride the total for her whole party?
It gives each listed price, such as bride, bridesmaid and trial, and reads your travel rule from notes. It does not add them up. If you want one figure spoken, list a package as its own service, for example bride and two bridesmaids at a set price.
Will it take the deposit that holds a date?
No. It states your deposit rule from notes and never takes payment details. You send a payment link or your bank details when you confirm the date by text.
I mostly get enquiries by message. Do I need the phone line?
The booking page is free and makes a good link for your social bio, and it takes the same name, mobile, service and timing. The line earns its place when brides and their families ring rather than message, because those calls land while you are working.
