A forwarding address is an email address set up to send on whatever reaches it. A message arrives and a copy goes straight to another address, sometimes with the original kept, sometimes not. Businesses use forwarding to gather mail from several places into one: the bookings address on an old website, the address printed on last year's vouchers, a personal account that clients have been using for years.
There are two directions to think about. You can forward from an old address to the one you actually read, so nothing sent to the old one is missed. And a service can give you an address of its own to forward to, so the messages land somewhere built for working through them.
In practice
A massage clinic has three email addresses in circulation: one on its website, one on business cards from two years ago, and the owner's personal address, which half the regulars use. She sets the first two to forward to the third. Over the next month 23 enquiries arrive through the forwarded addresses, 7 of them sent to the address on the old cards, which she had assumed nobody used any more.
Test any forward by sending a message from a different account. Check the junk folder at the receiving end during the first week too, because forwarded mail is sometimes filtered more strictly than mail sent direct.
In Glow Line
Your Enquiries page shows a forwarding address of your own, starting with enq- and your code at in.glowtally.com.au. Forward an enquiry to it and it appears on the page with the sender's name, their email and a reply link. See forward emails to your enquiry inbox.
